Access and Registration

Access

Access to the ICGEBnet resource is available to all ICGEB  Signatory and Member Country scientists; however, preference will be given to those scientists whose research is directly related to the research goals of ICGEB. Issuance of user accounts is subject to the approval of the Director of ICGEB. Our web servers (Protein Tools and DNA tools) are available freely, without registration.

Registration

In order to get a new account or to renew your expired account please:

1. Print out, fill in and sign the enclosed Application Form. Please make sure that the application form you return contains all information requested, including the name, address and signature of a senior reference person (supervisor) at your site. The latter is important for us so that we can quickly identify inactive accounts in the future.

2. Return the form by normal or express mail (but not FAX or e-mail) to: Sándor Pongor ICGEB Padriciano 99 34012 Trieste, Italy As soon as we receive the properly filled in form, we will return your login information to you by normal mail. Please note: For security reasons we shut down external user accounts not in use for longer times. We will re-open the account if we receive, by normal mail, the filled in Application Form.

Usage policies

- We invite all the new ICGEBnet users to read the document about the Netiquette - the Internet-Wide accepted Rules for correct use of network services.

- Please note that for security reasons the accounts are strictly personal, i.e. only one person can use the account and the password. If there are several persons at your institute/organization that need to use the ICGEBnet resources, separate user accounts will be activated, each of which should be requested through the standard procedure described above.

- If several persons need to collaborate on the same files/results, please let us know, and we will include those user accounts in a common group, allowing for sharing of selected files.

- Please strictly adhere to the following excerpt from our Application Form:

"I will use the ICGEBnet facilities only for scientific research purposes. I accept full responsibility for the use of my account and will not communicate my password to third parties."

Technical conditions

You will need a computer connected to the Internet. You can login to your registered user account using the telnet or the ssh (secure shell) protocols; for security reasons we strongly suggest to use the latter. You can use either the built-in facilities of your operating system or download a free client program, such as putty for Windows or MacSSH for Macintosh.
